CAROL-ANN
REASON-THIBAULT
Carol-Ann Reason-Thibault is one of the top CrossFitters in the world, an all-around great human being, and someone we at WOD Recovery are proud to say we sponsor and support in her CrossFit goals.
Let’s learn a little bit more about her.
Who Is Carol-Ann Reason-Thibault?
Quebec, Canada born and bred, Reason-Thibault is one of the brightest stars on the CrossFit scene, making herself into a serious worldwide contender for the Women’s CrossFit Games. She is a 6-time CrossFit Games individual competitor.
She stands 5’5, has revolved around the sun 32 times, and just so happens to be one of the most bad-ass competitors in the CrossFit world.
beginnings
Carol-Ann’s journey into the world of fitness and athletics began, like many Canadians, with hockey. She started playing at the 5 and did not stop for a long time. While for the majority of her youth hockey was her number one sport, she also played soccer and basketball throughout her childhood.
More than the sports themselves, what Carol-Ann really loved was the competition that goes into any high-level athletics. After high school, she moved into competitive boxing, and from there made the leap into another individual sport that maintains a team dynamic: CrossFit.
personal life
While CrossFit is what she is best known for, Reason-Thibault has a great heart for animals. Her dog, Angel, has been her constant friend and workout companion for the past 10 years, always gracing her CrossFit gym with his presence and making 5 minutes on the Assault Bike feel a little easier than it actually is.
At the age of 7, Angel’s vision deteriorated quickly, leaving her unhappy and unable to play fetch like she used to. The surgery for Angel to regain vision was complex and expensive.
Carol-Ann won workout 4 in the 2018 CrossFit Open and used her winnings from the event to finance her pup’s surgery, and Angel’s love of life and exuberance for fetch came back with a vengeance.
Reason-Thibault believes that dogs and CrossFit go hand in hand. A dog is the perfect companion for someone who is constantly on the move and being physically active, because the dog gets great enjoyment from tagging along on runs and hikes, which in turn make the sometimes-monotonous events more fun for the CrossFitter.
That is why she is a big supporter of Wags and Weights, a brand for fitness and animal lovers alike.
Fun fact: Carol-Ann’s favorite cheat meal is Nutella and ice cream!
getting into crossfit
Carol-Ann joined CrossFit in 2012. With her passion for competition, fitness, and competing against herself in order to improve, CrossFit was a logical choice. Since then, it has helped fill her life with happiness and contentment, while also introducing her to lifelong friends in the CrossFit community.
CROSSFIT GAMES
from amateur to professional
After picking up CrossFit in 2012, it only took a few years of training for Carol-Ann to make the leap from amateur to professional CrossFit. She competed in her first CrossFit Games in 2015, and has earned a place in the competition every year since then.
2015 was Reason-Thibault’s coming out party. The two years prior, she finished in the middle of the pack at the Canada East regional and had yet to punch a ticket to the CrossFit Games. In 2014, she came in 15th place.
Something happened between 2014 and 2015. Carol-Ann recognized that to be successful, she did not need to only work as hard as her peers – she needed to work harder. She spent the entire year in the gym, honing her strengths and improving her weaknesses – gymnastics especially.
She also took the next step in her mentality and preparation for the games. She discovered that being able to push yourself past your comfort zone and improve was something that required a strong, well-trained mind just as much, if not more, than a strong, well-trained body.
In 2015, she moved up 14 spots, dominating the competition and finishing with gold in the Canada East Open.
training, training, training
In 2015, Reason-Thibault bumped her training up to the next level. She knew she wanted to succeed and dove into the CrossFit world head-first.
Her normal training day looked something like this:
Strength work begins at 8am. From there, she moves on to weightlifting practice, then gymnastics, and finally a short metcon (metabolic conditioning).
Seems like a lot for 1 day, right? Well, that is just the morning.
In the afternoon, she goes into her second session of the day, going through more exercises and metabolic conditioning.
All in the average day for Carol-Ann Reason-Thibault.
the hard work pays off
Since 2015, Carol-Ann has been ranked as the number 1 women’s CrossFitter in Canada 4 times – 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020. In 2016 and 2018, she ranked 2nd.
Her worldwide ranks have risen as high as 6th overall, and for the 2020 season she currently stands at 8th.
She has made quite the name for herself at the CrossFit games over the last half-decade.
In her first appearance, the 2015 CrossFit Games, Carol-Ann finished 27th. Since then, she has been on a steady trajectory upwards, finishing 17th at the 2019 CrossFit Games.
BODY RECOVERY
how carol-ann reason-thibault recovers
Like every high-level competitor on the CrossFit scene, Carol-Ann realizes the importance of focused and intentional recovery.
She knows that stretching, rolling, and mobility work before and after training is as important as the WOD itself.
For tips on proper rolling for recovery, check this out:Â https://www.wodrecovery.com/blog/top-10-massage-ball-movements-for-body-recovery/
She also knows that there are ways to increase recovery beyond the obvious. Eating properly, sleeping the recommended amount of time, and recovery agents all play a role in recovering to the best of her abilities after a particularly hard WOD.
That is why she uses WOD Recovery Rx’s Full-Spectrum Hemp-Derived CBD oil to help with her recovery. With its all-natural ingredients, CBD oil helps the body calm down and relax after a workout, leading to deeper sleeps and better recoveries before Carol-Ann does it all over again the next day.
